This custom fabricated Lazy Kate consists of a solid piece of hardwood (American black cherry, European beech, hard maple, or black walnut) holding four carbon fiber shafts. Thanks to our AkerKate's unique engineering, the shafts are able to pivot up and down while remaining captive in the Kate, without risk of being lost or misplaced. Two endcaps protect the wood and house four rubber feet that reduce slipping/sliding during operation.
Our AkerKate accommodates up to four jumbo bobbins as large as 4.75" (121mm) diameter and 6.75" (171mm) tall. The shafts are undersized 1/4", measuring 0.240" diameter, so bobbins used on 1/4" flyer shafts (Ashford, Lendrum, Hansen, etc.) as well as bobbins for larger flyer shafts (Majacraft, Schacht, Kromski, etc.) will work quite well. This Kate coordinates beautifully with Akerworks Flat-Pack Bobbins.
Akerworks AkerKates feature TensiTamers on each shaft, a special device that provides individually-tunable braking tension to the bobbin. These TensiTamers can also be used as a yarn guide if desired. Four are provided with each Kate and can be stored on board the Kate when not in use.
Each AkerKate comes with a protective slipcover-style sleeve made of durable canvas duck.
